Caution: With timing chain removed, avoid turning camshaft or crankshaft. If movement is required, exercise extreme caution to avoid valve damage caused by piston contact.
Keep cam chain away from magnetic fields.
1.Turn crankshaft pulley so TDC mark aligns with pointer, Fig. 1.
2.Loosen front wheel nuts.
3.Raise and support front of vehicle using a suitable lift.
4.Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.
5.Remove splash shield and drive belt.
6.Remove mounting nuts and intake manifold cover.

23.Remove mounting bolts and automatic tensioner.
24.Remove mounting bolts timing chain guide B.
25.Remove timing chain guide and tensioner arm.
26.Remove timing chain.
27.Reverse procedure to install, note following:
a.Align crankshaft sprocket TDC mark with engine block pointer, Fig. 4.
b.Ensure VTC actuator and exhaust camshaft sprocket punch marks are at top and TDC marks align, Fig. 5.
c.Install timing chain on crankshaft sprocket with colored link aligned with crankshaft sprocket mark, Fig. 6.
d.Install timing chain on VTC actuator and exhaust camshaft sprocket with punch marks aligned with two colored pieces centers, Fig. 7.
e.Apply suitable liquid gasket, evenly to engine block mating surface of chain case and to bolt threads, Fig. 8.
f.Apply suitable liquid gasket evenly to oil pan mating surface of chain case and to bolt threads, Fig. 9.
g.Do not install components if four minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Apply liquid gasket, again, after removing residue.
h.Install new O-ring on chain case, Fig. 3.
i.Wait at least 30 minutes before filling engine with oil. Do not run engine within three hours after installing chain case.
j.Torque crankshaft pulley mounting bolt to 36 ft. lbs., then turn pulley bolt an additional 90º. Do not use impact wrench.
