Caution: With the timing chain removed, avoid turning the camshaft or crankshaft. If movement is required, exercise extreme caution to avoid valve damage caused by piston contact.
1.Obtain radio security code.
2.Disconnect and isolate battery ground cable.
3.Drain engine oil into a suitable container.
4.Rotate drive belt tensioner in counterclockwise direction to relieve tension, secure with a suitable lock pin.
5.Remove accessory drive belt. Before removing belt, mark running direction with chalk or a felt tip pen for use during installation.
6.Remove timing chain upper cover, as follows:
a.Disconnect connector from camshaft adjustment valve.
b.Remove attaching bolts, then camshaft adjustment valve.
c.Remove upper timing chain cover attaching bolt, then cover.
7.Remove control valve using tool No. T10352, or equivalent.
8.Remove attaching bolts, then bearing bracket.
9.Rotate vibration damper using tool No. T10355, or equivalent, until crankshaft pulley and camshaft sprocket TDC marks are aligned, Fig. 1.
10.Remove lower timing chain cover as follows:
a.Remove noise insulation.
b.Remove front part of right wheel housing liner.
c.Remove attaching bolts, then charge air pipe.
d.Loosen clamps and remove right charge air hose.
e.Remove vibration damper bolt using counter hold tool No. T10355, or equivalent. Crankshaft must not be moved out of TDC position when vibration damper bolt is removed to avoid changing valve timing.
f.Install vibration damper bolt and thrust piece tool No. T10368, or equivalent.
g.With a suitable engine support fixture, support engine in its installed position.
h.Remove engine mount to engine mount bracket attaching bolts.
i.Remove engine mount.
j.Lift engine approximately two inches and loosen upper bolt for engine mount bracket.
k.Lower engine approximately four inches.
l.Reposition wiring harness.
m.Remove bolt, then drive belt tensioner from accessory bracket.
n.Remove lower bolts for engine mount bracket.
o.Remove engine mount bracket and bolts.
p.Remove bolts and oil dipstick guide tube from timing chain cover.
q.Remove wastegate bypass regulator valve from turbocharger.
r.Remove turbocharger support.
s.Remove lower timing chain cover attaching bolts, then cover.
11.Remove control valve by rotating tool No. T10352, or equivalent in clockwise direction.
12.Remove bolts, then bearing bracket.
13.Press oil pump chain tensioner away from timing chain, and secure with lock pin tool No. T40011, or equivalent.
14.Remove oil pump chain tensioner guide pin.
15.Remove oil pump chain tensioner.
16.Lift chain tensioner locking wedge by inserting a suitable screwdriver into hole in chain tensioner and moving downward and secure with lock pin tool No. T40011, or equivalent.
17.Remove timing chain tensioning rail guide pin and tensioning rail.
18.Remove timing chain guide rail guide pins and guide rail.
19.Remove timing chain.
20.Reverse procedure to install, note following:
a.Inspect crankshaft TDC position, Figs. 2 and 3.
b.Mount timing chain on exhaust camshaft.
c.Mount timing chain on crankshaft.
d.Turn intake camshaft counterclockwise using a suitable wrench and mount timing chain. Continue to hold camshaft with wrench.
e.Install timing chain tensioning rail and torque guide pin to 15 ft. lbs.
f.Install timing chain guide rail and tighten guide pins.
g.Install bearing bracket and tighten bolts hand tight.
h.Remove lock pin from chain tensioner.
i.Torque bearing bracket bolts M6 bolts to 72 inch lbs., then tighten bolt an additional 90°. Torque M8 bolts to 15 ft. lbs., then tighten bolt an additional 90°.
j.Torque lower timing chain cover attaching bolts in sequence illustrated in Fig. 2, to 79 inch lbs., then tighten bolts an additional 45°.
k.Torque upper timing chain cover bolts to 79 inch lbs.
l.Install accessory drive belt.
m.Inspect cooling system and fill to proper level with recommended coolant, as required.
n.Fill engine crankcase to proper level with recommended engine oil.
