TIMING CHAIN, REPLACE
1.Rotate belt tensioner until it contacts stop, then remove drive belt and slowly rotate tensioner into freearm position.
2.Remove mounting bolt, washer and damper using vibration damper removal tool No. 7697, or equivalent.
3.Remove upper and lower radiator hoses, then the coolant recovery hose.
4.Remove thermal viscous fan mounting bolt. Caution: Fan drive threads are righthand. Do not remove fan now.
5.Remove fan shroud to upper crossmember mounting nuts.
6.Remove fan shroud and viscous fan.
7.Remove mounting bolts and accessory drive brackets.
8.Remove mounting bolts, then position air conditioning compressor and alternator bracket aside.
9.Remove mounting bolts, timing case cover and gasket.
10.Rotate crankshaft until zero timing mark is closest to and on center line with camshaft sprocket timing mark, Fig. 1.
11.Remove crankshaft oil slinger.
12.Remove camshaft sprocket mounting bolt and washer.
13.Remove crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocket and timing chain as an assembly.
14.Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a.Ensure correct timing by rotating crankshaft two revolutions and inspecting alignment, Fig. 1.
b.Torque A/C compressor bolts to 20 ft. lbs.
c.Torque A/C compressor bracket bolts to 30 ft. lbs.
d.Torque camshaft sprocket to 50 ft. lbs.
e.Torque1/4 inch cover to block bolts to 60 inch lbs.; 5/16 inch cover to block bolts to 16 ft. lbs.; 1/4 inch cover to pan bolts to 84 inch lbs.
